Monsoon-Induced Death Toll Rises to 145 People

Kathmandu: The ongoing monsoon rains have triggered floods and landslides across various parts of Nepal, resulting in the deaths of 145 people. According to Nepal Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, the fatalities since the monsoon began on June 10 are as follows:

Kathmandu Valley: 2 deaths
Koshi Province: 24 deaths
Madhes Province: 6 deaths
Bagmati Province: 29 deaths
Gandaki Province: 42 deaths
Lumbini Province: 24 deaths
Karnali Province: 8 deaths
Sudurpaschim Province: 10 deaths

Additionally, numerous injuries have been reported:

Kathmandu Valley: 10 injured
Koshi Province: 37 injured
Madhes Province: 10 injured
Bagmati Province: 9 injured
Gandaki Province: 34 injured
Lumbini Province: 9 injured
Karnali Province: 51 injured
Sudurpaschim Province: 14 injured

Rescue efforts have been ongoing, with the following rescues recorded:

Kathmandu Valley: 3 rescued
Koshi Province: 49 rescued
Gandaki Province: 14 rescued
Karnali Province: 2 rescued
Sudurpaschim Province: 5 rescued
However, 47 people remain missing in Koshi Province, 42 in Bagmati Province, 2 in Gandaki Province, and 1 in Karnali Province.

The monsoon has also caused significant damage to infrastructure and livestock:

Submerged houses: 184
Damaged houses: 248
Damaged sheds: 88
Damaged bridges: 43
Damaged schools: 2
Damaged government offices: 2
Deceased cattle-heads: 672
Displaced households: 4,063

The Weather Forecasting Division has indicated a likelihood of rainfall over the next three days, particularly at night. However, an improvement in weather conditions is expected after this period. Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane from the division mentioned that the influence of monsoon winds remains across the country, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning expected in various provinces tonight.
